Join the Lab

General Information

Our research group strives to be an inclusive and supportive training environment. We encourage applications from students belonging to groups historically and currently excluded from science, including people from diverse racial and socioeconomic backgrounds and members of the LGBTQ+ community. If you are interested in the prospect of enrolling in grad school in EEB but don't know where to start, I encourage you to review the materials available through the E & E Grad Preview program.

Prospective Graduate Students

I will be starting my lab in July 2024 and am recruiting PhD and MSc students for the current admissions cycle. If you are interested in applying, please read the information below and reach out to me via email (current email address: micah.freedman "at" botany.ubc.ca). In your email, please include a few short paragraphs that explain your interests, your research experience, and why you want to join the lab. It's also helpful for me to see your CV and transcripts.

For information on applying to EEB at U of T, including details about funding and opportunities for fellowships, please visit the EEB website here: https://eeb.utoronto.ca/education/graduate/graduate-finances/. I encourage you to review this information carefully, including the EEB Grad Application FAQs.

Please note that the application deadline for international students is December 9, 2023. The deadline for domestic students is January 9, 2024. International students are not eligible for admission to the MSc program. All prospective applicants are encouraged to seek outside funding through fellowships.

Prospective Postdocs

I am always open to queries from postdocs but have limited capacity to fund postdocs at the moment. If you are interested in working with me, please reach out and we can explore options for external funding through fellowships. In your email, please include a CV and a description of your research interests. Potential sources of funding include the NSERC Postdoctoral Fellowship, Banting Fellowship, Liber Ero Fellowhsip, and the Mitacs Elevate program. Internal postdoctoral fellowships include the EEB Postdoctoral Fellowship, U of T Provost's fellowships, and the Arts and Sciences Postdoctoral Fellowship Program.

Prospective Undergraduate Researchers

I will be hiring undergraduate students starting in 2024. Stay tuned for opportunities! I anticipate options to contribute to database, lab, field, and greenhouse-based projects.Â
