Freedman Lab

(coming July 2024)

Our group studies interactions between plants and their insect herbivores, with an emphasis on how plant chemistry mediates these interactions. Much of our work focuses on monarch butterflies and their milkweed host plants, but we are broadly interested in chemical ecology, ecological specialization, and the evolution of phenotypic plasticity. We also study monarch butterfly migration and use experiments, observations, community science data, and natural history collections to understand how monarchs cope with environmental change. We are located on the St. George Campus of the University of Toronto.
